Generative AI Use Policy

1. Purpose and Ethical Framework

In alignment with the latest position statements of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), Economics, Business and Management Science Journal (EBMSJ) sets forth clear ethical rules governing the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and similar tools in scholarly publishing.

2. AI Tools Cannot Be Listed as Authors

Generative AI tools and LLMs cannot be listed as an author or co-author on any manuscript submitted to EBMSJ. Authorship requires legal and ethical accountability for the originality, empirical accuracy, and integrity of the work—responsibilities that can only be borne by human researchers.

3. Permitted and Prohibited Uses by Authors

  • Permitted Use (Language & Editing Assistance): Authors may use AI-assisted tools strictly to improve the grammar, readability, and language polishing of their own human-written text, or to assist in writing statistical code (e.g., R, Python, Stata scripts), provided all outputs are thoroughly verified by the authors.
  • Prohibited Use (Data Fabrication & Synthetic Content): Authors must never use Generative AI to fabricate or manipulate empirical datasets, survey responses, econometric outputs, financial figures, or bibliographic references (hallucinated citations).

4. Mandatory Disclosure by Authors

If Generative AI tools were used beyond basic spelling and grammar checking (such as Grammarly), authors must include a transparent disclosure in the Research Method or Acknowledgments / Declaration of Generative AI section stating: (1) the name and version of the AI tool used, (2) the specific purpose of its use, and (3) a confirmation that the authors reviewed, edited, and take full responsibility for the content of the publication.

5. Confidentiality Rules for Peer Reviewers and Editors

Submitted manuscripts are confidential documents. Peer reviewers and Editors must never upload a submitted manuscript, abstract, or dataset into any public Generative AI tool to generate a peer-review report or editorial summary, as doing so violates author confidentiality, data privacy, and proprietary intellectual property rights.
